Rodent Rebellion

Rodent Rebellion is the capstone game for my degree at GMU. I joined the development team halfway through its development, as most of the team had graduated or otherwise were unable to continue work on the project. During my time as the producer and lead designer of the game, I turned a boring albeit well-programmed platformer into an intriguing, fun-to-play atmospheric Metroidvania with a unique twist- the ability to change your perception of reality!

SPOTLIGHT: The speedrun

During production, we wanted to accomplish two things: create an atmospheric story-driven experience on the first playthrough, and facilitate speedruns on subsequent playthroughs. As Metroidvanias are very popular games to speedrun despite not being particularly designed for them, we decided to implement speedrun mechanics directly into the game. Upon completing the game for the first time, you unlock Speedrun Mode, which overlays a timer in game, and gives you access to the Time Warp menu so you can replay each area for time trial practice. You can also save and favorite your runs in the Runs menu, and even export your times to Livesplit for easy streaming and recording!
